DISTANT HORIZONS PART 1
BY PRAKASH THAPA
I am thinking
about time, thinking about eternal truth of life with respect to time. And that
I think of the changing nature of things, for life is a moving reality. I
think: What am I doing actually? Why am I confused? And I think about the words
of Ron, for he says, 'Life is a continuous process of learning, and we are
students of life, for we are searching the meaning of life.'
Drinking coffee and sitting by the lake, we talk
about many things – that, what is the ultimate meaning of life? What is our
quest and so on? Why are men confused? Why are men selfish? I know there is
truth in Ron's words which transforms life in essence.
So I talk to Ron
on Machhapuchhre FM about Self Knowledge. Having graduated from Toronto
University and realizing the essence of truth that man is free from all
bondages of life, he lived like a rebel in the 60s. I came to see him at Green
View Restaurant at Pame Lakeside. Drinking coffee in the backdrop of Fewa Lake,
we talk about the stories of life: about truth of life in essence. Ron chooses
'Us and Them' of Pink Floyd on Machhapuchhre FM, for he likes the songs of Pink
Floyd in general. Also, he loves to listen to the songs of Bob Dylan, for
instance, he likes 'Simple Twist of Fate' which is one of my favorites too.
Man is free, and he always moves towards freedom. Also,
he longs to be free from all bondages in particular: political, religious and
ideological. However, Ron belongs to a
particular tradition which works for humanitarian purpose. Yet, I think, a man
cannot be totally free whenever he is conformed to certain dogma, theory and
ideology, and he can by no means understand the essence of truth, for truth is
neutral.
However,
Ron's thoughts are simple, they are down-to-earth in nature, and, moreover, his
thoughts are dedicated to humanity though they have certain limitations. We
talk about life. We exchange ideas, feel each other by heart, for this is the
process of being a man in essence. Most often, Ron likes to talk to children -
and that he says, 'They have an amazing power of understanding people because
they are innocent.'
